Green building means many different things to different people, but overall it is a concerted effort to minimize the impact on our environment by using eco-friendly processes and materials in the building process. The developers of Spicewood Hills are dedicated to environments that host efficient green homes and create minimal disturbance of the land surrounding those homes.

All the homes in Spicewood Hills will be NC HealthyBuilt Homes. This is a voluntary, statewide green building certification program supported by the WNC Green Building Council. To receive certification, these homes are inspected during the building process by an objective, professional third party who provides a detailed report with a score.

Owners of these homes benefit with reduced energy bills, a healthier indoor environment with the use of low VOC paints, more consistent temperatures and lower risk of mold growth, increased market values, tax incentives, and reduced air pollution. All the homes use Energy Star appliances and lighting, and exterior materials are low maintenance, using durable, local, and recycled content.

Some examples of green building processes that will be incorporated around these homes include driveways with permeable materials, storm water filtered through a natural wetlands area, walking trails, a butterfly garden, and use of local native plants in landscapes.
